Hi there! Alex here (the owner of Log & Mitten ). Data privacy matters a great deal to me when I’m online. So, I’d like to take a moment to tell you how your data is handled when you interact with this website.
THIS WEBSITE
To run this website, I use a service provider, namely WordPress.com.
When you choose to send me an email, after getting my email off my contact page, I use an email service provider to receive your email and that’s Fastmail.
If you choose to interact with this website, you’d typically do so in 4 ways:
- Browse & interact with the website
- Send me an email direct from your personal mailbox after getting my email address on my contact page
- Leave a comment on the blog
- Subscribe to the blog
Please note that, as you interact with this website, some of your personal data is being used and handled by my service providers, in accordance with their respective privacy policies, and myself in the ways set out in this privacy policy.
WordPress.com’s Privacy Policy
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
At any point in time, in accordance with GDPR, the new data protection law, you have a right to:
- Enquire into what data is being used
- Enquire into why your data is being used
- Enquire into who is using your data
- Enquire into how your data is being used
- Enquire into how long your data is being used for
- Request that your data be deleted from where they are stored (this won’t cost you a thing; it’s a legal requirement under the GDPR)
To enquire into how we use your data or send a deletion request, please drop me a line at logandmitten(at)veryfast(dot)biz and I’ll be more than happy to answer your questions and/or action your deletion request.
COOKIES
To run and manage this website, I use the following service providers:
- WordPress.com – website provider
These third-party service providers operate under their own respective privacy and cookie policies:
WordPress.com – Privacy Policy
Automattic’s Gravatar – Privacy Policy
Note: WordPress.com operates under the trading name of Automattic and Gravatar is a service offered by Automattic.
I, the website owner, do not use cookies.
OTHER THIRD PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS
I do not, at this stage, use anything else on this website, meaning no plugins, google analytics, email building list service such as Mailchimp, ads and other third-party service providers.
And I do not sell your data neither.
LEAVING a COMMENT ON THE BLOG
When you leave a comment on the blog, WordPress automatically sends me an email notification with the following details from you:
- Gravatar (if you have one)
- Your name (the one you chose for your gravatar)
- Your comment
- Your website url (the one you chose to give if you do have a website)
- Your email
- Your IP address
I typically immediately delete this email after seeing it because I moderate comments directly in WordPress. This notification makes it to my mailbox because I ask WordPress to notify me when a comment requires moderation. This helps me manage the blog.
The exact same data will show up against your comment in the WordPress comment management section.
If you are not happy with this information reaching me via my mailbox or my WordPress dashboard, you need to refrain from commenting on the blog because these are an integral part of WordPress.com’s services.
If you happen to discover this privacy policy after leaving a comment and you’re not happy with your data being used this way, drop me an email requesting that I delete your comment on WordPress and the attached email notification in my mailbox.
SUBSCRIBING TO THE BLOG
When subscribing to the blog, you will:
- Be added to my followers list on my WordPress dashboard (gravatar, account public display name, subscription date and account username)
- Receive an email from WordPress asking you to confirm your subscription to this blog
If at any point you no longer want your details to be displayed on my dashboard in the manner described above, an integral part of the service offered by Automatic as WordPress.com, you need to get in touch with me and let me know. I will delete you as a subscriber asap.
EMAIL Sent to my Mailbox
When you choose to send me an email, the email reaches my Fastmail mailbox with the following data:
- Name (the one associated with your email address)
- Email address
- Subject line
- Content of email
- Time and date the email was sent to me
- Email file size
Fastmail allows me to store and keep your email in accordance with its privacy policy:
The reason I allow others to contact me via email, therefore my receiving your email data in my mailbox, is to be of value to my audience should they have any questions about what I do.
Then, what do I do with your email?
I read your email and treat it the following way:
- Your email does not require a response. In this case, I will delete it as soon as I’ve read it
- Your email requires a response. In this case, I will respond first then delete the email
If at any point you’re no longer happy with having your email, therefore personal data, sitting in my mailbox, you need to drop me another email to request that all your emails be immediately deleted and I’ll be more than happy to oblige.
SECURITY
This website is hosted and operated by WordPress.com, meaning security is solely the responsibility of WordPress.com. And they are very good at security.
The same applies to Fastmail, also a major player in their respective industry.
In addition, I also follow good practices in terms of security when working with both Fastmail and WordPress.com.
CONSENT WITHDRAWL
Like I said above, if you’re no longer happy with you personal data ending up with me and being used the ways described above, drop me an email to request that your data be deleted from my mailbox or WordPress.com blog and I’ll action your request upon receipt.
I’m reachable at logandmitten(at)veryfast(dot)biz.
